General Info about an Arizona Vacation

Being Safe

In general, if you have your wits about you, you’ll find that most tourist areas are quite safe. Common sense always applies, even in the most touristy of areas, but you shouldn’t have reason to feel unusually unsafe unless you plan on visiting some of the urban areas where tourists rarely go. The usual common sense rules apply:
  • Stay away from deserted urban areas
  • Don’t hang out in public parks at night
  • If you’re unsure about a neighborhood, ask your hotel concierge
  • Don’t unnecessarily display your expensive items like camera, ipod, etc
  • Don’t take all your valuables with you…keep them in hotel safe
  • Keep your bag in sight, even when seated at a restaurant or theater
  • Lock your hotel room at all times

Driving

Make sure you have maps of the areas you want to drive. A cell phone is good to have in case you break down or feel you’re in danger. If you have an accident, just call for help and stay in your car until help arrives. Study US driving customs before you travel, and know what you’re doing when you drive. Most states now have seatbelt laws for both driver and passenger, as well as baby seat rules. If you have a collision, stop your car and exchange information with the other driver, and call the police and both drivers should wait until police arrive to assess the situation. For even just a small fender-bender, you have to exchange contact and insurance info with the other driver. Check with your rental agency for more details on what to do in an accident.

Don’t leave valuables in sight when you park the car. Don’t tempt theives by showing them what you have…put things in the trunk if you can. Emergency help number for police and ambulance is : 911. Again, it’s a good idea to get a cell phone if you’re going to drive in the US while on vacation.
